Matters of the Heart is a deeply moving drama about love, dependency, and the quiet fractures that form within a family. Directed by Christina Rosendahl, the film explores the emotional landscape of a marriage tested by addiction and the search for compassion within the chaos.
I worked on the project as Music Editor, collaborating closely with sound designer Peter Albrechtsen, composer Jonas Struck, and director Christina Rosendahl. My role was to shape the musical identity of the film — selecting, editing, and placing songs that could carry emotional weight without overshadowing the performances.
A large part of my work was also technical. The score was meticulously recorded for Dolby Atmos, and I was responsible for preparing and premixing it for the final mix. This meant ensuring every cue, layer, and spatial element was delivered cleanly, allowing the main mixers to fully explore the immersive potential of the recording.
The process was one of subtle precision — finding balance between silence and melody, intimacy and distance. Every song choice and every cue had to serve the story’s emotional truth, supporting the fragile beauty at the film’s core.
Working on Matters of the Heart was a reminder that music in cinema doesn’t just underscore emotion — it shapes it. When handled with care, it becomes part of the heartbeat of the film itself.
